First DIALOGUE Workshop: Applications-Driven Issues in Data Grids
overview | agenda with links to presentations | list of participants
Workshop Overview
The workshop was held:
- August 1 & 2, 2005
- The Blackwell, Room 320 Phahl
- The Ohio State University
- Columbus, Ohio, USA
Presentations and discussions at this first DIALOGUE workshop covered applications scenarios revealing issues encountered in the participants' current data grid solutions. In addition to overviews of various architectures, presentations discuss how such issues can be generalized and abstracted so that they can be addressed by existing grid middleware and/or propose potential middleware approaches to address these issues.
Among specific issues discussed are storage and management of extremely large data, data mining and warehousing, dealing with complex and varying models of data, querying and subsetting of large datasets, integration of multiple data types, integration across multiple scales of data, fine grain access control, and management and execution of data- and compute-intensive workflows.
Middleware solutions reviewed include OGSA-DAI, DQP, Mobius, DataCutter, STORM, dQUOB, Calder, and GridMiner.
